Parish Nurse

And he sent them to preach the Kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.  Luke 9:2

Not only are Christians called to preach but clearly Jesus has asked us to heal the sick. Throughout Christian history, healing and caring for the sick has fallen in and out of the domain of church communities. In the early church, healing was an important and natural aspect of ministry. What once seemed natural, caring for the whole body-mind-spirit, became fractured over time. As science took over the realm of caring for the body and psychology the mind, churches became focused solely on spiritual matters. Science has offered life saving technologies and treatments for many diseases. Miracles of modern medicine cannot be denied. However, there is a growing awareness that modern medicine has its limits.

Parish Nursing is an opportunity to bridge the gap between the spirit and mind-body medicine. The Parish Nurse brings the heart and soul back into the science of nursing. The Parish Nurse acknowledges the importance of approaching wellness and health with an awareness that the mind-body-spirit are one.

Role of a Parish Nurse:

Health Educator
  • Promote a healthy lifestyle through health screenings, educational programs, newsletters and other resources and activities.
Health Counselor
  • Discuss health issues and concerns with individuals and families.
Coordinator of Volunteers
  • Involve others in activities, including blood pressure screenings, health related programs and wellness committees.
Integrator of Faith/Health Relationship
  • Promote an understanding of the relationship of body, mind and spirit, and the role of values, attitudes, lifestyle and faith.
Referral Source
  • Serve as a liaison between parishioners and resources within the congregation and the community.
Health Advocate
  • Support individuals and families as they navigate the complex healthcare system.

Faith Partners

Faith Partners at Christ Lutheran is a ministry team who provide acceptance, support, education, and resources to engage and assist people of faith in the development of caring communities that promote prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drug abuse.

Prayer Shawl Ministry (WELCA)

Prayer Shawls are made by the women of Christ Lutheran and given to members, family and friends as they heal from illness or struggles. Prayers of hope and healing, health and wellness are prayed as the shawl is knitted or crocheted.

Prayer Chain

Our prayer chain is a network of individuals who will receive prayer requests and thanksgivings, forward them to the next available person in the group, and will pray immediately for each request. If you would like to be added to the prayer chain or add a family member or friend please call Vicki in the church office at 651-777-2881 or click here to fill out a prayer request.

Stephen Ministry

Christ Lutheran is a Stephen Ministry congregation. There are lay caregivers (called Stephen Ministers) who provide one-to-one Christian care to the bereaved, hospitalized, terminally ill, separated, divorced, unemployed, relocated, and others facing a crisis or life challenge. Stephen Ministers help the pastor and congregations provide caring ministry for as long as people need it.

Healing Services

A service of healing is offered the last Sunday of the month at the end of worship. Healing ministers are at the altar to offer the laying on of hands and anointing with oil.

Healing Touch

Healing Touch is an energy-based therapeutic approach to healing. It began as a nursing continuing education program and is now open to anyone who feels called to offer a gentle and compassionate touch supporting the healing process of another person. The goal of Healing Touch is the restoration of harmony and balance in a person’s energy system, enabling that person to heal on all levels-physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. Healing Touch Practitioners, at Christ Lutheran, approach healing with a deep spiritual connection and the intention to be open to God’s highest good.
