Facilities Task Force
Charter & Update (September 09)
We hope you had a great summer. The Facilities Task Force has continued to meet this summer and are making progress on our goals.
As you may remember, one of the recommendations of the approved 2008 Long Range Planning Report, was to hire an architect to explore the feasibility phase of drafting facility improvements to enhance the mission, identity and purpose of CLC.
Our task force’s purpose is to identify and work with an architect to meet this goal.
The 2008 Long Range Plan identified the priorities to be: 1. Improve-efficient Sunday School classrooms 2. Improve space for hospitality/fellowship areas 3. Expansion of narthex space and a welcome center 4. Handicap opener on the north entrance door 5. Enclose courtyard area for additional space.
We have visited several churches to see the results of their renovation projects and to learn from their experiences. From our visits, we identified a list of ten architect firms with experience in church construction/renovation. We held an information/walk through meeting and asked them to complete a “Request for Proposal” (RFP). Four firms submitted this request and we have decided to interview two of them and then make our final selection in September.
In addition to the RFPs we have already received, we have developed a list of additional questions relating to our specific project. Some of these will be: A. How do they plan to meet our objectives from the 2008 Long Range Plan B. Who and what is the expertise of the people who will be working on our project. C. What type of design/build process have they used. D. What processes do they use for change orders, errors and omissions. We will also solicit input from references provided.
We are getting excited to make this selection and will be making our recommendation to the church council. As we continue to make progress we will keep you informed. If you have any questions, please contact any of our task force members: Claudia Anderson, Dave Whiting, Jennifer Owens, Jim Lohmann,Pastor Julie,Pat Skaiem, Ron Johnson, Jeff Ubl, Steve Urtel
